Nine Jeremy Hansons
July 10th
For the nine of us gathered at the park before our swim tonight all we could talk about was the success of Robynne and Kylie in their solo Channel Swims. Each and every one of us was over the moon knowing that they had done it.
Alison wasn't with us as she was busy watching her daughter Alexanne win
the 100 Breaststroke at Canadian Trials in Montreal. One more reason
for her to be
over the moon.
We found the water at Juniper Beach was 22.5 degrees, nothing to be over
the moon about but still pretty nice. Even better was the fact that it
was still 21 degrees at the Point where there was considerable chop.
(First time this summer it's been over 20 degrees
throughout the swim.)
Seven of us carried on to the Painted Rocks and then worked through the
rough water back to the Point. Some of us were channeling the Channel.
We could surf with the waves on our way back to the beach from the
Point. We were glad to finish when we did as the
wind picked up considerably right after we got out.
We will swim again at 8:00 on Sunday morning. A few of us plan to
leave the beach at 7:15 to swim to the Point before Cosens Beach,
thereby doing a 5k swim. We time it so that we can meet up with the rest
of the group somewhere near Gary's Log. We will
shorten up the swim if conditions are rough although convincing Sean to
do that will likely be difficult.
With the nights now staying quite warm, we hope that translates to warmer lake water.
See you Sunday,
